As content creators, we're always on the hunt for new projects, and clients, and basically hustling our way in order to do what we love and create the life of our dreams!
However, when you are working for yourself with multiple projects, you must find ways of being productive and fitting everything you need to do in 24 hours, without getting burnout! 😱
After almost 3 years of working as a freelance content creator, I have managed to find my 'flow' and these are some of the things I do on a daily basis to make sure I can accomplish everything I set myself to do:
1. Having a morning routine: Try to dedicate the mornings to yourself.
I have no rush in the morning, The mornings are 'ME TIME'.
I wake up, have a coffee, meditate, and work out every morning. I prefer working out in the morning so that I know I can have the rest of the day to focus on work.
Once I've done all this, I am ready to start the working day.
2. Have a to-do list with all the tasks and projects you have to accomplish.
I know everyone keeps talking about to-do lists. But it's for a reason. They really work
When you put it all in writing, it seems more achievable and easy to digest.
Have a general to-do for personal stuff and a separate one for work.
There is also something pleasing about crossing out stuff from your to-do list. It gives you a great feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.
3. Planning your week ahead.
Every Sunday eve, I sit down and write down all the things I have to do for my clients.
For this, I create a weekly to-do list. Once I'm done, I start distributing tasks and projects for each day of the week.
Ideally, you should put the toughest tasks on Monday or Tuesday and try to leave the end of the week with 'lighter' tasks.
Sometimes I even decide to take Fridays off or dedicate them to personal projects.
4. Every day start your day by going through your to-do list and setting up priorities.
It helps to put numbers next to each task. With 1 being the highest priority and so on. This way you can get a better idea of where to start.
There are people that love using the Eisenhower Matrix to distribute their tasks between urgent and not urgent, and important and less important.
5. Set times (and colors) for different tasks or projects
If you work with different clients and projects, set up an estimated time for each task and make sure that you are only doing things for that client during this time.
Set a color for each different project. When you add these tasks to your calendar with different colors, you can get a better glimpse of what your day looks like, making it easier to get started and get things done.
6. Using the Pomodoro Technique.
It usually works really well for me to be hyper-focused for 25 min and have a 5 min break to check messages, Instagram, etc.
I also use an app called Focus Commit that helps you organize your tasks and it also has a timer for each task.
7. Taking breaks!
Working can become a bit addictive and sometimes you can't see it, but it also leads to burnout.
Take breaks during the day. Maybe don't work 6 hours straight but break it into 3 and 3, with a fun break in the middle.
And do fun things during the weekend to break the routine.
Remember that the most important thing is to have fun! You are doing this because it's what you love and what you chose to do. So just enjoy it!
I hope you find these tips useful and you can start applying them to your work routine.
