Essential Tips For New Entrepreneurs: 20 Key Lessons I Wish Someone Would Have Shared With Me...

Tips For New Entrepreneurs

So, in case you didn’t know, I celebrated my 34th birthday a few weeks ago and I wanted to do a video on 34 lessons learned in my business, but then it felt like maybe it would be too much, and I couldn’t think of more at the time of writing this. So I'm sharing my biggest 20 lessons that will also serve as tips for new entrepreneurs!

This was a really fun exercise to do that required me to close my eyes and do a mental scan of my entrepreneurial journey to find moments that turned into lessons. If you haven’t done this yet, I really encourage you to!

So let’s go!

  1. Success is 90% mindset, 10% strategy - For an entire year, I tried all the strategies in the books. From the top online entrepreneurs, and yet… I wasn’t meeting my goals. The reason? I was struggling with a lot of negative beliefs that were hindering my success. Understanding that attitude greatly influences outcomes sets the foundation for all entrepreneurial efforts.

  2. Whether you believe you can or you can’t, you’re right. - Your beliefs serve as the foundation upon which your potential for success is built. They shape your perceptions, influence your decisions, and ultimately determine the actions you take. I really want to dive deeper into this concept in an upcoming video, but for now, just now it's crucial to recognize that your mind possesses limitless capabilities, capable of achieving extraordinary things when harnessed properly.

  3. Self-awareness is a non-negotiable for entrepreneurs - Knowing yourself, the way you react to situations, the way certain things make you feel, etc is crucial for navigating the complexities of business and entrepreneurship. There are so many tools that can help like therapy, medication, and journaling. Find one that resonates the most with you and make it a habit.

  4. Instant gratification is the biggest killer of your long-term vision - Social media has conditioned us to expect immediate rewards and instant feedback. This can have a detrimental impact on our ability to set and work towards long-term goals. When we focus solely on instant gratification, we prioritize short-term pleasures over long-term gains. This can lead us to make impulsive decisions that may not be in our best interests.

  5. It’s ok not to be an expert, you can still share your journey toward becoming one - Many of my clients came to me with that fear of not being “expert” enough to help or teach others. The truth is nobody is an expert when they first start. A lot of people start by sharing their journeys and lessons and that is more than enough to build an audience that grows with you. Embrace your learning curve and use it to connect with others.

  6. Being vulnerable is the easiest way of being “authentic” and connecting with your audience - When we start out, we think that being vulnerable is a sign of weakness. We want to be perceived as an authority and as leaders, but in doing so, we forget that we’re also humans and vulnerability is such an important part of the human experience and we’re your vulnerable, you’re the most authentic and real version of you. Authenticity builds trust and fosters strong connections.

  7. Comparison is not bad. It’s the intention behind it that’s bad - I used to compare myself ALL THE TIME. People who were growing faster than me, having more profitable launches, making more money every month, and it was absolutely killing me. Once I shifted my intention behind it and saw them as a source of inspiration, thinking “If they can, so can I”, my suffering ended. Use comparison as a tool for motivation and learning, not as a source of discouragement.

  8. There’s always going to be someone better than you - This links back to the previous lesson. There was a time when I wanted to be the BEST at everything, and that ended up being exhausting. Accepting this can free you from unnecessary pressure and inspire continuous improvement.

  9. If you want to make money online, you must heal your relationship with money - This is a tricky one because I know a lot of people come from cultures and families where money is demonized or is seen as scarce. For years, I had a bad relationship with money due to wrong beliefs. I used to look at wealthy people and feel some sort of resentment thinking I could never be like them. Then, when I started making money in my business, it wasn’t long until it was gone again. Like I didn’t feel worthy of having it. I’m still working through this by the way because a healthy financial mindset is key to thriving in business.

  10. When feeling stuck, start looking for answers within and not outside - Often, when we have problems in our business we try to find answers and solutions everywhere but within. We ask our coach, mentor, family, and friends, and they will ALL have a different opinion. I’ve learned that sometimes sitting in silence, reflecting, and asking God, the universe, or any personal belief system for guidance, will lead to the best solutions.

  11. Failing is more important than succeeding - I've experienced countless failures—far more than successes. And you know what? I'm truly grateful for each one. These failures tested my resolve, revealed new aspects of my character, and pushed me beyond my comfort zone, sparking innovation and new solutions. Failures are invaluable learning opportunities that ultimately pave the way to success.

  12. Entrepreneurship is a roller coaster and it’s during the lows that you grow the most - When I first started my business, I experienced lots of success. Fast growth, recognition, money. My self-confidence spiked and I felt on top of the world. The problem is that everything that goes up must come down and I wasn’t ready for that. I attached my self-worth to those peaks and hit the bottom hard. Nonetheless, it made me grow as a human more than anything else.

  13. If it’s not working out, it’s because it’s not aligned with your soul's higher purpose - Lately, I've felt a misalignment with my brand. My purpose had outgrown its current state, leading to a feeling of stagnation; my content wasn't resonating as it used to. This was a clear sign that I needed to shift directions to align more closely with my broader purpose and vision. Being in tune with your core values and goals is essential for both fulfillment and success.

  14. Having a powerful vision is more important than making sales - Having a powerful vision is more important than making sales because it provides a clear direction and purpose for your business. It's not just about making money; it's about creating something meaningful and lasting.

  15. Choose a niche, but build a personal brand - I do believe that when you’re first starting a business, you should do it in a specific niche. People will follow you for the “niche” but stick around for “you” so spending time building that personal brand is crucial to connect with like-minded people, especially if you decide to pivot your niche at any point in your journey.

  16. It’s ok to pivot. In fact, you’re going to pivot multiple times in your business - I’ve pivoted so many times and I’m currently going through another huge pivot. Evolving is part of being a human and flexibility to change directions is essential as you grow and learn.

  17. If you do it only for the money, the money is what will make you stuck - I had to admit, there was a time when I was too focused on the money side of my business. Sales, sales, sales. And that made me totally lose my higher vision and purpose, making me feel stuck and uninspired. Pursuing passion and purpose rather than just profit leads to more sustainable success.

  18. You can probably do it alone, but getting help will get you there faster and with fewer mistakes - I used to believe I could handle everything on my own and didn’t ask for any help during my first year and a half. I was also scared to invest, which stemmed from having a poor relationship with money. However, once I invested in a coach and sought support, my business took quantum leaps. Leveraging others’ expertise can truly accelerate your success.

  19. If you can hold it in your mind, you can have it in your hands. - It has been proven that everything starts as a thought before manifesting in this world. If you can hold any thought in your mind, add an emotion to it, and visualize it, there is no way you won’t be able to achieve it.

  20. Relationships are the pillars of a successful business - If you want a successful, thriving, long-term business, the one thing you need to start prioritizing is relationships. Speak with your audience, answer their questions, get back to their DMs, and be human. The law of reciprocity never fails and when you give, you receive. Cultivate strong relationships to support and enhance your business.

Wow, that was a lot but it was so fun to write! I’m considering doing a video expanding on some of these points. Which one resonated the most with you?
